First Classes for Young Children
Parent and Me introduces dance or tumbling for ages 2–4. Caregivers are encouraged to participate, but participation is optional. Ballet can begin at age 3. Ask which option suits your child’s readiness.
Encore Academy - Bluffdale, Utah
Choosing a dance class starts with your child: their age, what they enjoy, and what they’ve learned so far. At our Bluffdale studio, you can explore ballet, hip-hop, jazz, modern, tap, and tumbling/acro. We’ll help you find a class and level that make sense for your dancer.
If this is your child’s first dance class, you don’t need to pick a level on your own. New dancers and their parents are invited to a consultation with Emma before registering. Share your child’s age, any previous classes, and whether they’re looking for a weekly activity or working toward a performance goal.
Our level guide gives approximate age ranges, but skill and experience also matter. A dancer returning after a break or changing styles may need a different starting point. We’ll help you confirm placement before choosing classes.
Start with the options below, then ask us about the right level. Each program page explains the class in more detail; the schedule helps you compare class times.

Ballet focuses on positions, alignment, and foundational technique. Hip-hop includes routines and freestyle expression, while tap explores rhythm through footwork. Tell us what your child enjoys so we can help narrow the choices.
Share your dancer’s previous training and goals before selecting a level. Jazz develops kicks, turns, and leaps; modern includes floor work and creative movement. Ask about class combinations and any ballet requirements before registering.
For children drawn to cartwheels, balances, and acrobatic skills, explore tumbling/acro. Parents interested in dancing themselves can explore our non-performing adult classes and ask about current options.

Age ranges are a guide, not an automatic placement. Our levels also consider skill and experience. New dancers and their parents are invited to a consultation with Emma before registering to discuss goals and confirm the right level.
No. Recreational classes are an option for dancers who want to develop technique and perform in the end-of-year concert. Competition teams have a separate audition process and commitment. Ask us about the path that fits your dancer’s goals.
