Hip-Hop Dance Classes in Bluffdale
For kids and teens who love moving to music, our hip-hop classes bring together foundational moves, choreographed routines, and room for personal style. Whether your dancer is new to classes or has dance experience, we can help you find a group that fits their starting point.
Finding the right hip-hop class
Our hip-hop program welcomes beginners and dancers with experience. When you ask about classes, tell us your dancer's age, any previous dance training, and what they'd like to try. A student who's new to a studio may need a different starting point from someone who's already comfortable learning choreography.
Hip Hop 3/4 is currently labeled for children ages 5 turning 6 and 6 turning 7. Age labels are a starting point: levels also depend on skill and experience. Ask us about placement for your dancer, especially when the class label and their age seem to point to different groups.
Demi and Academy/Company hip-hop groups are listed as audition-only, two-year programs. Contact us to discuss the appropriate route before choosing one of these groups.
What students practice in class
Our program introduces hip-hop techniques including popping, locking, breaking, and freestyling. Students practice choreographed routines to hip-hop music and explore their own movement through freestyle sessions.
The work involves rhythm, coordination, and energetic movement. Learning a routine means listening to the music and putting movements together; freestyle gives dancers space to make their own choices. Supportive instruction encourages creativity and helps students practice performing with confidence, without expecting a beginner to arrive with polished moves.
What to wear to hip-hop
Our hip-hop dress code allows a leotard, tank top, T-shirt, or another comfortable top suitable for movement. Students may wear leggings, joggers, dance shorts, or sweatpants.
Hip-hop shoes must be reserved for studio use and never worn outdoors or as street shoes. Hair should be secured in a tidy ponytail or bun unless the instructor directs otherwise. Check the dress-code page for the listed shoe options before buying; hip-hop items are excluded from the general studio-store offering.
Plan your dancer's classes and tuition
Dancers over age 8 are required to take at least one hour of ballet. Ask how that requirement applies to your dancer when planning hip-hop classes, so you can consider their full class commitment.
