Dress Code
Studio Store
All required dress code items (except for hip hop items) are available through the Encore Academy online store.
Orders placed through the studio store will be shipped directly to Encore Academy and may be picked up at the front desk once they arrive.
All dancers are required to purchase the specific tights and shoes listed in the studio store. This ensures that every dancer has the correct style and color for classes and performances.
Leotards, shorts, skirts, and other dancewear may be purchased through the studio store or another retailer, as long as they meet the color and style requirements listed for the dancer’s class.
Ballet Classes
Ballet 1, 2, and 3
Dancers may wear any combination of the following:
- Leotard
- Tights
- Ballet skirt
- Dance shorts
Ballet shoes must be worn throughout the entire class.
Ballet 4, 5, 6, Demi, Academy, Company, and Principles
Dancers must wear:
- A black leotard in the style of their choice
- Revolution Classic Pink Tights
- Revolution Split Sole Ballet Shoes
The required tights and ballet shoes must be purchased through the studio store.
Dancers may also wear black dance shorts or a ballet skirt in their assigned class color. Class-color skirts are available through the studio store.
Assigned Class Colors
- Principles: Black
- Company: Red
- Academy: Teal
- Demi: White
- Ballet 4, 5, and 6: Pink
Hair must be secured in a neat ballet bun.
Boys’ Ballet Attire
Boys should wear:
- Plain white T-shirt
- Black leggings
- Revolution Split Sole Ballet Shoes in black
Jazz and Tap Classes
Jazz 1, 2, and 3
Dancers may wear any combination of the following:
- Leotard
- Tights
- Dance skirt
- Dance shorts
Jazz 4 and Above
Dancers may choose from the following:
Top
- Black leotard
- Black fitted tank top
Bottom
- Black leggings
- Black dance shorts
- Black joggers for male dancers
Jazz Shoes
Dancers must wear Revolution Jazz Boots in Dark Tan, available through the studio store.
Tap Shoes
Dancers may wear any lace-up or slip-on tap shoe that is not made of patent leather.
Hair must be secured in a tidy ponytail or bun.
Baggy clothing is not permitted in jazz classes.
Modern Classes
Modern students may choose from the following:
Top
- Black leotard
- Black fitted tank top
Bottom
- Black leggings
- Black dance shorts
- Black joggers for male dancers
Shoes
Modern classes are taken barefoot. No shoes are required.
Hair must be secured in a tidy ponytail or bun.
Hip-Hop Classes
Hip-hop students may choose from the following:
Top
- Leotard
- Tank top
- T-shirt
- Another comfortable top suitable for movement
Bottom
- Leggings
- Joggers
- Dance shorts
- Sweatpants
Shoes
Hip-hop shoes must be reserved for studio use and should never be worn outdoors or used as street shoes.
Hair must be secured in a tidy ponytail or bun unless otherwise directed by the instructor.
Tumbling and Acro Classes
Tumbling and acro students may choose from the following:
Top
- Leotard
- Fitted tank top
- Gymnastics unitard
Bottom
- Leggings
- Dance shorts
- Black joggers for male dancers
Shoes
Tumbling and acro classes are taken barefoot. No shoes are required.
Hair must be secured in a tidy ponytail or bun.
Broadway Dance and MDT Classes
Broadway Dance and Musical Dance Theatre students may choose from the following:
Top
- Black leotard
- Black fitted tank top
Bottom
- Black leggings
- Black dance shorts
- Black sweatpants
- Black joggers for male dancers
Shoes
Dancers must wear Revolution Jazz Boots in Dark Tan, available through the studio store.
Hair must be secured in a tidy ponytail or bun.
Jeans are not permitted.
Acting and Voice Classes
Students may wear any clothing that is comfortable and allows them to move freely.
Music Classes
Students may wear any attire that would be appropriate for a casual school day.
Adult Classes
There is no required dress code for adult classes. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.
